Jeanne and I traveled to Winchester California (just north east of Temecula) to celebrate Christmas with her son Daniel, daughter-in-law Danielle, grandson Dylan and newborn granddaughter Daylin and the rest of the family. Winchester is the site of the horse ranch Danielle's mom Renee runs. The California back country is beautiful this time of year. The star if the celebration was Daylin, who cooed and slept except when feeding time came.
Grandma Jeanne holds Daylin for a close-up.
The only eyes open picture so far. Daylin, NOT Jeanne!!
I almost cried. Don't tell anyone.
Proud father Daniel gets ANOTHER smile from Daylin.
I love the way little ones make the family closer. Jeanne and Daniel have always been close. Jeanne and Danielle have really become a team getting ready, then during delivery.
Jeanne gets one of the whole family at the traditional British popper fortune and prize opening. We are all children of our King as you can see. Clockwise from me on right is great grandma Denise, great grandpa Wayne, Tamara, Daniel, Danielle, Dylan, and Renee. Lisa and her fiance Ray had to work, so we celebrated with them on the 23rd. What fun!

Another birth at Christmas
As I mentioned in our Christmas letter post Jeanne and I have been involved in planting a new church (satellite) in Rancho San Diego. We are a multi-site church with one staff for all locations. For those of you who don't know where that is: east of La Mesa, south of El Cajon at the very east end of Hwy 94. So about 15 minutes due east of our house. We started by renting space at the large Edwards Theatre complex in the heart of the Rancho SD mall. That was a good beginning, and yes, we set up church and break it down and put all the gear for kids and a sound system for the "worship center" back in two large trailers each Sunday.
The only disadvantage to the Edwards space was that we couldn't just enjoy visiting after church because we had to breakdown quickly to make way for the incoming movie patrons. God provided another place for us (a story in itself) at the nearby Cuyamaca Community College across the street from the mall. Above our church "dualie" pulls into the loading area of the brand new multimillion dollar Theatre Arts building where we now have our services with no pressure to leave quickly!
Our first service was Christmas Eve. Gotta have a Christmas Tree!! What a blessing to have this opportunity.
Jeanne helps decorate the foyer.
Here we set up another theatre in the complex as an infant to 2 yr old care room.
Fran and our greeters welcome families as they arrive. My favorite is the princess in tennis shoes!
Here you see the whole complex (and our goofy youth pastor) as you near the main theatre we use as "worship center" or "Adult Auditorium".
Here is JC Navarro our pastor in the center with the really ugly Christmas sweater and members of the worship team.
Yet another greeting as you pick up your program with sermon notes, flyers, the ususal...
Now we have seating for nearly 300 in a beautiful new auditorium that would otherwise not be used on a weekend. Thank you Lord!!
In come our new growing congregation. We had about 200 Christmas Eve.
Worship team music is always live. This is where I help out on a rotation basis. I LOVE IT!!
After service is Coffee...
...and sweet fellowship. Time to get to know each other better as we encourage each other to find and follow Jesus. Amen!

Christmas Letter 2011
Merry Christmas from San Diego! I write on a beautiful Sunday morning of 70 degrees and a cloudless sky. I know it is winter because I’m wearing my long wet suit when I paddle out for winter waves of 57 degrees.
Jeanne and I are on our way to Temecula to spend time with her son Daniel’s family who are now real in-laws as he married his lovely girlfriend Danielle this year. We got an instant grandson named Dylan (7) from her previous marriage. He is the greatest little guy who has captured our hearts with his gentle spirit and intelligence. This summer he got to meet and play with his new cousin Danny when Renee (daughter) and Ale visited this summer. Danny had a 2 yr old birthday party and he and Dylan enjoyed the little wading pool together. Danny loved his new cousin instantly as an inventive playmate who was patient and kind and fun all afternoon. Kids are such an example of acceptance of others if you pay attention! Dylan has started to spend a weekend with Grandpa Warren and Grandma Jeanne when he is out of school. He loves the beach, and scooter and bikes and LEGO!! He also has a new baby sister Daylin who came into the world just the day before yesterday (12/23) ! Grandma Jeanne got to be there, and this morning I anticipate holding this precious gift from God. Pictures on my blog at: www.hotelkellyfornia.blogspot.com.
Early last January my manager called me into his office to give me a new assignment. He promised a challenge for me. I now serve as the sole customer facing consultant to the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District. This is the local arm of the EPA in our county with about 300 staff, mostly chemists. They are pretty set in their ways and are having difficulty adapting to the software we have installed and customized for them. The APCD IT manager is a sharp guy who works hard and demands a great deal from his consultant – me. Together we are automating their operation and soon will be making it web automated for permit review and renewal via internet including paying annual fees etc. To complicate things, on May 1 this year my contract to do this work was bought by Hewlett-Packard. SD County extended the contract to 2017 (which is great) but I had to squeeze in the on-boarding activities, including a large dose of company Kool-Aid and a new management culture. So far HP is leaning on guys like me to keep the customer happy until they can take control of customer issues.
Jeanne is working for a female dentist 1 to 3 days a week these days. In fact their whole staff is female. She works hard there as they see a lot of patients per day. On days off she hits the gym and has done a lot of decorating, and organizing along with the usual chores so we can enjoy our time when we are home together. I simply cannot tell you how she has “decorated” my entire life in so many delightful ways. We also enjoy prayer and scripture and inspirational books together. We watch movies and read to each other. Our favorite this year was Ken Follett’s “Fall of Giants”. Book one of a trilogy starting with WWI Europe to continue through WWII and into modern industrial age.
This spring Jeanne and I acted like little kids and went to Disneyland for a couple of days. She has not been for a long time, and I had not seen many of the new attractions. It was good for both of us, as we relaxed and enjoyed the entertainment at a leisurely pace. Jeanne has a penchant for making me laugh as we explored our childhood views of Disney, movies, siblings, family culture and misbehaving. July 10 we celebrated 2 whole years of marital bliss with a special evening at Donovan’s on Fifth in the Gas Lamp District downtown. We have been pleasantly surprised at how quickly trust and emotional compatibility have grown between us. We also started dance lessons at Balboa Park Dancers nearby. We got into East Coast swing, foxtrot, and were introduced to others. We really enjoy this engaging activity and the exercise. No surprise I’m still surfing on Saturday mornings with my buddies at Tourmaline Surfing Park.
As mentioned above Renee (my oldest daughter) and Alejandro and grandson Danny made a trip to San Diego. It was great to see them, play with Danny and catch up. Alejandro has his handyman business going full time and is pretty busy. Renee continues to enjoy working from home as a Mary Kay consultant and full time mom. Her blog is amazing: http://www.miqueridafamilia.com/. Family and recipes to boot.
Lisa is still engaged (since last Christmas) to Ray Villegas. They will get married Feb 29 and we are looking forward to Renee and Ale getting out for that. This year her prayers and hard work resulted in promotion to manager and AMC theatres in La Jolla. We like to meet for dinner then free movies from her family tickets benefit! Lisa still is passionate about film and has competed with a team in preparing short subject entries. She also joined our church: Eastlake Community Church.
Speaking of church, last August Jeanne and I volunteered with about 100 others to plant a satellite church in Rancho San Diego. EastLake Chula Vista is designed to accommodate 10,000 and we are about 7000 now. So in anticipation we have planted an internet church, and 3 satellite location churches. We have separate live worship team bands, and local pastor, but share the preaching from Chula Vista or one of the satellites or one of our out-of-state plants. Isn’t the internet handy? Christmas Eve was our first service in the new location: the new Theatre Arts complex at Cuyamaca Community College. We had about 200 attend. I’m back to playing guitar in rotation at the Rancho satellite. Quarterly I contribute to our Email Devotional that goes out M – F to those who subscribe online. When did Jesus get this techie?
Alas Christmas is a little different this year because Ken flew in and scooped Kate (Mom) up on Dec 16 and flew here back to Oahu for celebration with himself and Violet and son Chris (and dog Kona). That dog is gonna be spoiled! Jeanne and I will fly out on Martin Luther King holiday and bring Mom back with us after two weeks of much needed get away. She continues to live where I grew up with help from our dear Charlene Cole-Young. This has been a tough year for Charlene as she lost her husband Orson, and recently here dad. Still she and her daughter have provided steady sustaining help to Kate in spite of family difficulty and a knee replacement which was very successful! This holiday season she is on vacation well deserved.
Jeanne’s brother Pierre moved up on the property her family owns in Cohasset California which is the site where her mom, Lorae has her home. He checks up and is a help with various needs that arise. Jeanne has more peace of mind with him keeping an eye on things up there.
That rounds out the family news from us. We genuinely care that you have a connection to us as we move into 2012 together. Merry Christmas and God bless you!

Daylin Arrives!!
Last Wednesday our daughter-in-law Danielle went to her latest pre-natal and was told: "your baby is ready, your just not starting labor. So Friday we will induce if you don't have her before then". Well, Friday morning the doctors got things started while Jeanne flew up the highway to join the fun as an invitee into the delivery suite!
I sent a camera and prayed for a healthy birth and pictures I could post. Welcome to the world Daylin!!
Daniel comforts Danielle as the nurse preps and the doctor gloves up. Pretty soon little one...
After 15 minutes of pushing.... one healthy little one joined the family in our world. Clearing the airway of fluid is always good. Very little crying, more like a squeak according to Mom. "I have a little squeaker".
Hey Mom, I'm still "connected"!! Dad gets to help with the cord.
Dad leans in: "let's have a closer look little one". Do I have to open my eyes Dad?
This hat is cool! er... warm... is it nap time yet? Sure is light out here.
6lbs, 11 oz. Yep that's me. I'm ready for some jammies.
Hey nurse, I got a bracelet and ankle thingy. What up?
Daylin Weissenborn. 15 minutes old. Great job Danielle! Congrats Dad. Congrats to everyone. Thanks God. Merry Christmas a little early!

Baby shower for Danielle
Well this fall the inevitable baby shower happened in October. Jeanne and my mom Kate and Lisa journeyed up Hwy 15 to Temecula to be with Danielle's family to have some fun and help get the nest ready for a new little girl. Here is the evidence...
Kate really enjoyed the idea she would become a great grandmother AGAIN!
Danielle listens as Jeanne explains college choices for the grandchild, and Lisa waves to the camera.
More gifts arrived...
and even more gifts arrived. I think women like to shop for babies!! Then the opening commenced.
And everyone had to see as they went around...
Aren't patios the best!! Desiree, (Danielle's sister) brings the items for review.
Then, there was FOOOOOOOOD of course. Danielle's mom Renee helps out.
By this time the baby girl had a name: Daylin. Grandpa really likes this Irish name. So, the family will be Daylin, Danielle, Daniel, and of course big brother Dylan. Think of the naming possibilities for future kids... Donovan, Dolly, Dingo, Darnit, Darlene, Dont, Domingo, Dorito, I just can't wait!
Here is the proud father-to-be (Daniel) in the new granddaughter suite. Love this decor. Won't be long now!

Anticipating a new grand baby
Jeanne and I have been delighted by her son and new daughter-in-law with the prospect of a new grandchild. We knew (after awhile) this would be a girl. The family has just been giddy with anticipation. I think it is great, and am thoroughly amused at all the frenzy of preparation all the ladies are involved with.
Here is evidence from Jeanne and Danielle after a trip to the doctor July 17. More to come!

How Time Flys
Most of you are wondering if I fell off of the face of the Earth or at least the face of the blog world. I did. I do love to write, but getting going with my new position at Hewlett-Packard turned out to be real challenge. I learned I'm not as young as I used to be in terms of energy for work. Not only did I have to adapt to a new work culture, but my customer has a great deal more work for me than I can realistically handle. In a bad economy that is a good thing, but it caused about 6 months of team building on top of usual tasks to be able to provide the kind of service requested. My cardiologist keeps reminding me I have to have ample rest and exercise to benefit from the work they did on my heart in 2008. So blogging had to go for awhile. I'm back with some important family news to follow and my Christmas letter. Now if I can just figure out when to.....
Here, Abby helps me get ready for Christmas. I still can't get her to hold a ribbon while I tie it.

Two Years!
Recently I enjoyed a very special evening with my bride of two years at Donovan's Gaslamp on Fifth right on our anniversay: July 10. I so love this late-in-life surprise who is so spunky and spiritual and cute. We both spent some time reflecting on how blessed we are to have met by God's providence. It is odd how 2 years doesn't mean much to those of you who have been married most of your lives to the same person and you plan for the big ones, like Jeanne and I did in previous marriages, say for the 25th, or 30th. I can say from our new perspective on marriage, that each day can be a celebration of the heart, and two years has been our little miracle to cherish that we never thought we would have. Thanks to our God of mercy. May we glorify You in our joy Lord.
Here is the first of mostly bad pictures I (or the waiter) took this past month.
A word about Donovan's: Superlative. Bring your very best friend or friends Reward yourself. Money well spent. If not now, when?

Daniel and Danielle Marry!
I'm pleased to share the news that my lovely wife's son Daniel married his girlfriend in a civil ceremony last month. Jeanne and Danielle's mom Renee attended and witnessed the official joining of these two wonderful people and I couldn't be more excited.
Here they are at the Hemet County Complex before the ceremony.
Paperwork all done and ready to go.
Ready to start. Admonitions...
Vows....
Rings.... end eventually.....
Kissing!!! Yep, now your married. Congratulations you two!!
Extra exciting in this event is the fact that the young fella in the orange shirt above is a new grand son (in law). He is Dylan (6 yrs) and is Danielle's son from a previous marriage. He is a great guy and as you will see in another post, has already been a great playmate to my grandson Danny. The family is really growing!! What a blessing.

Mother's Day 2011
Just a few years ago my mom Kate and I celebrated mother's day one on one. Usually a movie and a new restaurant for something different. My Mom is pretty unique and very loving, and loves her two boys. Brother Ken never fails to connect and shower Mom with something special if he can't be here.
Last weekend I found myself involved with SEVEN mothers. And that doesn't count Lisa's soon to be mother-in-law Nora! So, wife Jeanne (#1) and I picked up Kate (#2) and went up to a brunch with her son Daniel and his girlfriend's family. Guess what? There is a new ring on my step-son's girlfriend. Daniel and Danielle are to be married! Danielle (#3) has a son Dylan from a previous marriage so she is already a mom. That is them to my left past Jeanne above.
Her sister Desiree (#4) and husband Jason have a little boy Jackson on the way! Joe and Renee (#5) were there because Renee is mom to Danielle and Desiree and youngest daughter Tamara. (Renee, Joe, Jason, Desiree above)
Then there is Renee's mom Dianne (#6) and husband Wayne along to add to the grandmother contingent. Tamara is right of Kate. Jeanne connected with her mom Lorrae (#7) on the phone as she is in Chico with brother Pierre. Phew.... did I miss anyone? Lucille's Barbecue was delicious and we had a great time discussing all the new fun we are going to have together. Speaking of fun, how about horses? Renee and Joe have a Board and Ride ranch in Winchester. So we all went to check it out! Kate rode the electric cart to save walking and got to see all.
Some of these belong to owners who board their horses and come out to ride, some belong to Renee and Joe, and Danielle, and ??? Jeanne likes horses I found out. Especially little cute ones!
Some of these great animals are soooo gentle, and love attention. May have to go for a ride sometime...with all the mother's I have in my life. By the way, I talked to my daughter Renee (#8) this morning who posted great pictures of my grandson Danny up in Colorado with one of my favorite moms of years past. Renee and husband Ale are featured at: http://www.miqueridafamilia.com/ . Hope you had fun with someone's Mom last weekend!
